The Wit Hotel has opened in Chicago, and it is drawing quite a buzz. Now the hottest spot to be at in the city, it offers prime-time Chicago views at the new sizzling hot ROOF bar, 27 flights up with 8,000 feet of indoor-outdoor entertainment, a great late-nite dining menu, killer drinks, and the newest, best and hottest views of the city, not to mention an awesome sound system. The new construction building was developed by ECD Co. and designed by Jackie Koo, Architect of Koo and Associates. It looks like this:

The building is on State Street next to the Chicago theatre. It is already known as the building with the “lightening bolt” streaking across its front:

The building, sited where the reknowned Fritzel’s restaurant once stood, welcomes its place in the fabric of the city on busy State Street at Lake, next to the metra el tracks:

We have been on twitter for a while as “SelfMadePhoto” and are posting a daily “TwitPic of the day”, as an exercise just for fun with photos made from our Blackberry Curve. As perhaps not everyone is aware of it, our “Tweets” can be followed at: http://twitter.com/selfmadephoto. Much like Chase Jarvis, who posts from his Iphone, we want to demonstrate that good photographs can be made any time any place, even if you barely have a camera with you! I am posting some of our recent “Pics of the day” as I thought it would be fun to show them here. By the way if you are a photographer, Chase offers up several helpful videos on You Tube, which cover how shoots, what equipment he uses, etc. By the way, if you Tweet, TwitPic is a very useful tool to get your photos out there quickly. I am always amazed that I can go direct from a cellphone photo to having it posted online in less than a minute! No more trips to the lab, or even 1 hour photo in a pich! New Photos from new hotel The Wit opening in Chicago

There’s a new hotel opening up in Chicago this month called The Wit, at the corner of State and Lake downtown. It will be a great spot for a party or wedding. It promises to be an uber-hip offering and first in a series by the DoubleTree Hotel chain. The rooftop bar will have both indoor and outdoor seating, with an outdoor firepit and killer views. We were up there on Friday night, just as the skies parted from a two day rain blast that once again soaked Chicago. Catching the views at dusk was awesome, here is one of the shots we did:

You catch a sliver of Millenium Park looking to the southeast. The Hard Rock Hotel is located in the Carbide and Carbon building on the left side of the photo. To the North you see the Chicago River and a slice of the new Trump Tower. Shots of the Trump Tower and more of my hotel photography can be viewed on my website: www.waynecable.com. Look for the bar to be a hot spot after it opens in May during the summer months.

Photos of Chicago Blues legend Eddy Clearwater

I had the good fortune to see Blues legend Eddy Clearwater last night at Bill’s Blues in Evanston, Illinois. Eddy is one of the Chicago blues greats hailing from Macon, Mississippi and one of the few surviving originals. He named himself “Clearwater” as a counterpoint to Blues’ great Muddy Waters. Eddy belts out the blues with beauty, emotion, and clarity. He is a truly authentic bluesman, and if you get the chance to see him, you should check him out. His nickname is “The Chief” and I have had the pleasure of seeing him perform years ago in full native american headdress.
